Comparing to iA Writer.
Pros:
- You can use menu commands, so Byword serves as a tutorial for beginning Markdown users.
- It has a more capable Markdown processor, so Byword is less annoying to work with for advanced users.
- Byword allows you to change the font and font size easily.
- Byword has line and paragraph focus mode.
Cons:
- Byword uses John Grubers syntax for new paragraphs, whereas iA Writer uses Git Flavored Markdown (GFM). If you absolutely need Gruber Markdown, this is a pro. But if youre learning Markdown or plan to use Markdown primarily to mark existing text documents, Git Markdown is better.
- Byword lacks sentence focus, which is more valuable than line and paragraph focus modes. Probably combined.
Draw:
- Both include good support for Lion, including full screen and support document revisions.
I use Byword, but the lack of Git Markdown support is definitely a problem.
