Byword App Reviews

Byword has always been the best Markdown editor but now its phenomenal

This is absolutely the best Markdown writing tool. With its new features it just cannot be beat. I of course bought the premium edition so I could publish directly to WordPress which is fantastic. The only thing it really requires it is the support of graphics otherwise now its a snap to just get your Markdown straight onto Wordpress etc offline and directly. I love it.

Sleazy move...

Used to be my go-to productivity app… but adding in-app purchases (and expensive ones at that!) to a pay-app is a sleazy move. The addition isnt worth $4.99 when other apps can already do it and for nothing extra. Ill be using something else in the future.

Great App!

Byword is a pleasure to write in. It has a clean, uncluttered interface. iCloud synce works flawlessly across my Mac, iPad and iPhone. Very happy with this purchase! Support from the developer is quick and very helpful.

wasted margin space

the left & right margins are too wide, no matter if i choose Narrow, Medium or Wide; Byword wastes valuable screen real estate. is it possible to have the text wrap right at the edge of the window, instead of all that wasted space on either side? latest version of Byword generates the following error: "Byword" cant be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers. Byword created this file today at 3:00 PM. this happens when i use Byword to create a text document, save it to the Desktop as Byword.txt, then attempt to re-open it in Byword after changing the default Open with for the document to Byword, instead of TextEdit. if i launch Byword app by itself, no problem; but if i change the text document to Open with Byword (from the Get Info dialog), then i get the security warning above, and the document wont open. theres always something like this with the Mac, never fails to disappoint me.

Everything Ive Been Looking For

This is a beautiful, clean and I daresay flawless app. A few of its main features that I was looking for and some I found pleasant surprises: - It will sync via Dropbox automatically - Allows fodlers and sub-folders - Syncs across desktop app, iPad, and iPhone seamlessly - Has a beautiful clean asthetic and a very slick dark theme mode - Has full screen mode on desktop app - Does a really beautiful highlight thing were it darkens the lines of text your not typing in. Excellent app.

My "go to” app for Markdown

In the past couple of years I have bought and tested almost every word/code processing app that claims to supports Markdown. Byword is just better than the rest. Strongly recommended.

Interrupts users, asking for reviews

All in all, Byword is a great app. I’d rate it five stars, but it just interrupted me when I was working on a document, asking me to review it. Don’t interrupt a user when he is using your app! Let him get his work done.

Good App

I really enjoy the balance of simplcicity and the features avialable in Byword. However, I am missing these features: - Table of content navigation using a keyboard shortcut. Essential for long documents. - CMD +3 to add ### Headings - keybaord shortcut - Export to Word settings, I enjoy typing using Menlo font but want to export in Times New Roman to dock

My go-to editor

This is one of the best Markdown editors I’ve used and it’s been solid and stable. I really appreciate having a version on my Macbook and another on my iPad. Using iCloud, it makes switching back and forth between machines seamless. The export functions are excellent. If you’re looking for a simple, distraction-free editor for your writing, you can scarcely do better than Byword.

Use it on a daily basis!

It’s one of the those apps that I use daily for doing my writing. The developers have done a great job! Thankfully the app has never crashed on me!

Brilliant little app

There are probably many of us that remember that *one* word processor/text editor without which we just couldn’t get on with writing. Ever faithful to our tool, we installed it on every new computer over the years, dreading the day when it would stop working, or when getting it to work right was too much of a hassle. On my old Commodore 64 (and through subsequent iterations) it was GeoWrite (as part of GEOS.) On my Amiga 500 it was ProWrite. On my old PowerMac 6100/60 (which proved a great and reiable friend for eight years - as long as I had my Commodore, actually), it was ClarisWorks. And now, on my early 2008 MacBook Pro (which still works beautifully), I have the pleasure Byword’s good company. Well done, developers! Please keep this wonderful little app alive!

Try something else if you’re writing technical/programming blog posts

There is no syntax highlighting for programming languages. Try MacDown instead. The only reason I considered switching from MacDown (which is free btw) is that I wanted evernote and wordpress integration, but I’m missing 2 key things from MacDown: 1. Side by Side view (with Byword I need to keep launching the ‘preview’ mode to see the effects of my changes. Using MacDown you see the preview side-by-side real-time) 2. Programming language syntax highlighting when including code snippets. MacDown also allows you to show ‘line numbering’ in code snippets so in your text you can refer to them when explaining things.

Buy !

It looks simple, but it’s super powerful. Just the copy to html when using markdown is worth the price of admission if you’re a power user.

Not happy with this purchase

I am unable to upgrade to premium. Am therefore unable to upload to Evernote, which was the reason I purchased in the first place. My efforts to contact Byword support received no response. I’m out $15 and have nothing worthwhile for it.

Perfect Markdown application

Byword on MacOS is the perfect compliment to the apps on iOS. You never know when you might need access to specific documents. Byword is perfect for taking down notes, create drafts, and best of all since its markdown you can easily export to html. The export menu also lets you save your documents in other formats such as Word, so even if you are markdown fan you can still share your work with people that dont use it.

Please Fix the Publishing

I purchased this as an easy front end edit for Evernote and I am continually frustrated by the weak Publishing. It is both inconsistend and infuriating that a simple push to Evernote should be so needlessly time consuming. I have written Byword directly to no avail. Disappointed.

Great app for quick writing

I use a variety of text editors, but still keep coming back to Byword to start ideas and frequently finish them in Byword as well.

An excellent product

This app is at the same time powerful and simple. In this version we have the possibility to use tabs and this is another plus. I recommend this app for the following reasons: * Well thought out * Extremely useful features * small footprint * Regular updates * Powerful enough to undertake the longest text * Good for begginers or seasoned writers Has not failed me yet!

One of my Favourites

I have used all the well-reviewed, well-liked writing apps. This one is my second favourite (after Ulysses). I like it because it has everything you need, but is also a simple editor. I like what I write when I use this app. My favourite feature is the syncing: I write something on my iPad and find exactly what I wrote on my iMac a minute later. Perfect!

Excellent

Bought this app after giving up on ia Writer. Byword is simple, easy to use, and gets out of my way when I want it to, but doesnt treat me like an idiot by limiting what I can or cant do. Probably one of the best creative apps I own.
